On the front cover is an embossed silver and gold plate, depicting Christ enthroned between the Virgin and another, bearded, figure; symbols of the four Evangelists in the corners. Origin: Eastern Mediterranean, owned by and likely created at the Monastery of St Nicholas in Pentrochonte, north of Berat, Albania: ownership inscription (f 1r), see further Cataldi Palau (1997) [=2008].Provenance:Theodore Mouzachos (Lord of Berat between 1389 and 1412), received the manuscript for safe-keeping in 1399 from Daniel, the hieromonk at the Monastery of St Nicholas, along with a number of other manuscripts: | |||
