Monument in the town of Grândola to the 25 April 1974 Revolution ("the Carnation Revolution") that restored democracy in Portugal. The score on the monument is that of a song banned by the fascist regime, "Grândola Vila Morena", that praises the town's strong sense of community spirit. The song was played at a pre-arranged time on the radio in the early hours of 25 April as a signal to the insurgents to proceed with the uprising. |
