Bruno Balz (*1902 - †1988) war der Ehemann von Selma Balz (geb. Pett, *1907 - †1985), und der Partner des Künstlers und Schauspielers Jürgen Draeger (*1940 - †2020). Auch wenn seinem Schaffen zwischen den Jahren 1933 und 1945 die ideologische Ambivalenz anhaftet, die dem vieler in dieser Zeit, im Deutschen Reich gebliebenen (nicht emigrierten) Künstler*innen, ob zurecht oder zu unrecht, anhaftet, lieferte Balz mit dem Komponisten Michael Jary nicht nur der Film- und Musikwelt eingehende Lieder[1], sonder auch der deutsch-sprachigen LGBT Kultur mehrere Hymnen, die wohl am bekannteste, "Kann denn Liebe Sünde sein?", geschrieben für Zarah Leander.

Bruno Balz (*1902 - †1988) was the husband of Selma Balz (nee PettPett, *1907 - †1985)), and the partner of the artist and actor Jürgen Draeger (*1940 - †2020). Even if Balz's work between 1933 and 1945 is subject to the ideological ambivalence that, whether rightly or wrongly, shrouds the work of many artists who remained in the German Reich (who did not emigrate) during the period, Balz, in collaboration with the composer Michael Jary, not only deliver the film and music world memorable songs[2], but also provide German-speaking LGBT culture several anthems, the best known perhaps, "Kann denn Liebe Sünde sein?"* (literally "Can love be a sin?"), written for and performed by Zarah Leander.
