English: Plaque placed on November 26, 1936 to commemorate the glorious feat accomplished by Corporal José García in 1812.

The plaque reads : A la memoria del Cabo de Inválidos José García que con riesgo de perder la vida salvó de la ruina los Alcázares y Torres de la Alhambra en 1812.

Historical context : After the Victory of the Anglo-Luso-Spanish Allied forces at Los Arapiles (July 22, 1812 – <► File:Los Arapiles 22 July 1812.jpg), the collapse of the napoléonic régime accelerated. On September 3, General Francisco López Ballesteros triumphantly entered Antequera, some 100 km away from Granada. The commander of the napoléonic occupation forces based at Granada (Soult) evacuated the city on September 16-17, taking care of having the Alhambra blown up : the Seven Soils, the Water Tower and the Cape of the Race were destroyed. Additional damage was luckily avoided thanks to the valiant intervention of Corporal José García.
