The Grand Canyon is a steep sided gorge formed by the Colorado River in northern Arizona, United States. View from Lipan Point on the East Rim of Grand Canyon to the Colorado River. These are the 4 units (dipped at 15 degrees), directly below the en:Tapeats Sandstone, (immediately above, but not in photo). The units are (of Grand Canyon Supergroup), 1-Chuar Group, 2-Nankoweap Formation-(darkish band), (Next, of the en:Unkar Group), 3-en:Cardenas Lava-(reddish), 4-Dox Formation, (the delta at outfall of Basalt Creek, and up creekside (20-60 ft(?)). The 4 units are all conformably laid upon each other, youngest is the top (Chuar Group). (It contacts Vishnu Schist at a en:fault (geology)).
