Description |
English: Graptolite colony in Womble Shale (Middle Ordovician; 470-450 Ma). Formerly part of panel on graptolites (HOSP 231) obtained from NPS Museum Branch in 1935-36 for exhibit; panel deaccessioned 1981, but fossils retained. Fossils recatalogued as a natural history specimen in 1992. The Ordovician-Silurian boundary was marked by a mass extinction that wiped out most species of graptolite. |
