Description
Henri Ding (Grenoble, 1844 - idem, 1898), Gratianopolis, 1884, marbre. Achat à Jules Biron en 1896. Salon de Grenoble (plâtre, 1883). Cette sculpture est une allégorie de la ville de Grenoble, jadis appelée Gratianopolis. Une jeune femme au regard profond et aux allures conquérantes, est entourée par multiples attributs symboliques. Sur le casque ailé trône un coq bicéphale, avec les armoires de la ville (d'or aux trois roses de gueules). Les pans du vêtement sont couverts d'écailles (un motif de gorgone selon certains), et des serpents décorent l'encolure.
