The grave of 'Wee' Hannah Herrity (c1835 - 1926) in the catholic graveyard at Kill beside the old church at 901323. Hannah lived for a time in Dunfanaghy Workhouse where her story can be heard - see 899441. After becoming a beggar in old age, some locals raised money and gave Hannah a small cottage to live in in her final years. Their generosity almost certainly paid for this grave as well. The headstone is in Irish but a translation of the inscription reads: "A woman of her time Who struggled with life In time of hunger In time of scarcity Time of Great Famine" |
