Summary
editDescriptionGrave stele of Panchares (4th cent. B.C.) at the National Archaeological Museum of Athens on 19 April 2018.jpg |
English: The stele is unique in regard to both the size and the composition. The dead man is shown as a hoplite confronting his opponent, a Macedonian horseman, probably in the Battle of Chaeronea (338 B.C.) The loutrophoros indicates that the man died unmarried. The stele was found at Kaminia, near Peiraios Street. Accession number: 5280. Archaeological Museum of Piraeus. Piraeus, Greece.
