Summary
editDescriptionGravestone of note - Parish Church of Llantrithyd - geograph.org.uk - 1615278.jpg |
English: Gravestone of note - Parish Church of Llantrithyd The Thomas grave is inscribed to tell of his wife, Jane who was the 36th child of one Benjamin Howell of Neath. To the top right of the stone is a light coloured rectangle that differs in colour from the rest of it. This resulted from a clergyman who, on becoming the rector of the church, was rather upset at the fact that 36 children should be recorded on a tombstone in his church yard when he only had 13! He had that part of the inscription removed. Parishioners were so outraged at this that they made sure that the original inscription was restored. Unfortunately the repair was n't quite as good as the original workmanship and only serves to draw attention to the shortcomings of he who caused it in the first place. |
