Description
English: The Great Cormorant (Phalacrocorax carbo), also known as the Great Black Cormorant, Black Cormorant (Australia), Large Cormorant (India), and Black Shag (New Zealand), is a widely distributed member of the cormorant family of seabirds. These fish-eating birds can be found in various regions worldwide, including Asia, Europe, Africa, Oceania, and North America. In Nepal, the Great Cormorant is often seen during the winter months. According to Animalia, its top speed is 93 km/h, its lifespan is 23 years, and its weight ranges from 2600 to 3700 g. Great Cormorants are carnivores (piscivores); they mainly eat various kinds of fish, and when fishing in freshwater, they will also consume crustaceans, amphibians, and insects. They lay 2 to 6 eggs with an incubation period of 27 to 31 days. The fledgling, or chick, reaches independence at approximately 100 days.
