Description
English: Great Malvern - Four Buildings Looking down between the Unicorn and Barclays to the Post Office and the tower of Great Malvern Priory. The town of Great Malvern started as a gathering of houses around the Priory. One of the oldest existing timber framed buildings from the village is now the Unicorn pub. The Royal Library (now Barclays) was built in the late 18th century for visitors to Malvern decades before the Water Cure boom of the 1840s. The existence of this one building could well have determined whether it was Great Malvern rather than Malvern Wells that blossomed into a town. The original church (St. Thomas') for the village stood on the site of the Post Office. The parishioners were able to buy the massive Priory church after the reformation for a mere £20.
