日本語: 往時の大南門。臺南はもとタイワンと稱する土蕃の部落であつたが千六百五十年に和蘭人が之を占領して城砦を築き，次いで鄭氏の占據する所となり，更に康熙二十三年清國の領有に歸し臺灣府治の地を定めたのである。當時は荷ほ城壁の構築なく四方に坊門を設けた許りであつたが，其後屢匪亂の為めに襲撃を受けるので，最初は竹を植ゑて防禦としたが，乾隆元年に石を疊んで七門を築き木柵を圍らして城廓を構へ，其後更に乾隆五十三年林爽文の亂に際し愈瓦磚を積んで城壁を築くこととなり，五十三年に工を起し五十六年に竣功したのが大體今の臺南城である。道光年間に更に外廓を增築し又同治元年の大震に大破したので之を補修し，其後光緒元年にも重修した。門は東西南北各大小二門を設け街衢と城外との交通要扼に充てたのであつたが，今は殆ど取毀して完全に保存されて居るのは東南二門である。現在の大南門は城壁の一部と共に修築されては居るが，却つて雅趣ある往時の寫真をことに揭げた。（尾崎秀真）
