Summary

edit
Description Megachile rotundata: Young alfalfa leafcutter bee in wood nesting hole. This is a solitary bee species, about 10mm in length. This species was introduced to pollinate clover. Hurunui District, New Zealand. I was interested in the green matrix visible in the eye structure of this very young bee. From its cautious behaviour, including holding onto its older sibling with one foot, I don't think this bee could see well at this stage of its development.
