English: Gregorius Cross, a golden chest cross with relic container for a sliver of the Cross of Christ, a so-called Enkolpion, an in Niellotechnik decorated cross of gold overlaid with an equated cross of polished rock crystal. It is a gift from Pope Gregory I the Great to the Queen of the Langobarden Theodolinde on the basis of the mediation of the armistice and subsequent peace between King in 598 Agilulf and Pope Gregory I. (Martha Schad: Die berühmtesten Frauen der Weltgeschichte - Von der Antike bis zum 17. Jahrhundert, Marixverlag, Wiesbaden, 2007, p. 27-30, ISBN 978-3-86539-930-4.)
The exhibit shown is a copy from the gate hall of Kloster Frauenchiemsee, the original is in the Cathedral treasure of Monza.
Deutsch: Gregorius-Kreuz, ein goldenes Brustkreuz mit Reliquienbehälter für einen Splitter vom Kreuz Christi, einem sogenannten Enkolpion, ein in Niellotechnik geschmücktem Kreuz aus Gold überlagert mit einem gleichgeformten Kreuz aus geschliffenem Bergkristall. Es ist ein Geschenk von Papst Gregor I. der Große an die Königin der Langobarden Theodolinde auf Grund der Vermittlung des Waffenstillstandes und anschließendem Friedensschluss 598 zwischen König Agilulf und Papst Gregor I. (Martha Schad: ‘‘Die berühmtesten Frauen der Weltgeschichte - Von der Antike bis zum 17. Jahrhundert‘‘, Marixverlag, Wiesbaden, 2007, S. 27-30, ISBN 978-3-86539-930-4.)
Bei dem abgebildeten Exponat handelt es sich um eine Kopie aus der Torhalle von Kloster Frauenchiemsee, das Original dazu befindet sich im Domschatz von Monza. |
