Description
English: U.S. Navy Grumman A-6E Intruder from Attack Squadron 165 (VA-165) "Boomers" and VA-115 "Eagles" fly in formation past the aircraft USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63), not visible, making this the largest group of A-6Es to that date to fly by the ship. The Intruders from VA-115, originally assigned to Carrier Air Wing 5 (CVW-5) aboard the aircraft carrier USS Midway (CV-41), were temporarily reassigned to Carrier Air Wing 9 (CVW-9) aboard the Kitty Hawk. VA-165 was assigned to CVW-9 aboard the Kitty Hawk for her world cruise from 3 January to 29 June 1987. The detachment of VA-115 was aboard from 19 February to 8 May 1987.
