Description
English: A U.S. Navy Grumman WF-2 Tracer of Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 11 (VAW-11) Det. L "Early Eleven" is launched from the aircraft carrier USS Hancock (CVA-19) on 23 August 1962. A Vought F8U-1 Crusader (BuNo 145404) of Fighter Squadron 211 (VF-211) "Fighting Checkmates" moves up to be launched from the starboard catapult. Note the launching cable at the end of the port catapult and the ones on the right side of the flight deck. Both squadrons were assigned to Carrier Air Group 21 (CVG-21) aboard the Hancock for a deployment to the Western Pacific from 2 February to 7 October 1962.
The WF-2 would be redesignated E-1B under the new joint designation system a month later, the F8U-1 would become the F-8A.
