There is also a valu-able Library of 60,000 vols, and2000 MSS, with many miniaturesand original drawings, includingmany by Leonardo da Vinci andGaudenzio Ferrari. Attached to the Royal Palaceon the W. side is the Cathedral, inthe Renaissance style, completed in1498. The facade is very handsome,and is constructed of marble. TheCappella della Santa Sindone isa lofty rotunda, surrounded bycolumns of black polished marblewith gilded capitals and bases.Over the altar of this chapel, in aspecies of urn, is preserved a portionof the winding-sheet (Sindone) inwhich our Saviours body waswrapped for burial. (Entrance be-fore 9 a.m.) This is one of theburial-places of the house of Savoy.
