Description

This was a very weird place. It was perfectly preserved. There were booby-trapped barbed wire fences so that the guards knew when prisoners had escaped. The tailings pile was HUGE and it was obvious the prisoners had to climb to the top with a heavy load on their backs. We tried climbing it without anything and it was tough.

I can't imagine life as a gulag prisoner.
