DescriptionGun battery (4078011300).jpg |
before being decommissioned in the 1970s and turned into parkland, fort tilden was an active military base. during the cold war, fort tilden was equipped with anti-aircraft missiles and two batteries containing "70-foot-long cannon that could accurately shoot 2,300-pound shells 25 miles out to sea," according to an interesting article by corey at the times. this is one of the batteries. it's pretty much solid concrete. -ben |
