Description
English: The H.H. Little House, 54 Norwood Avenue, Buffalo, December 2019. Both an architectural gem and a good representative example of the typical housing stock in the Elmwood Village, the house's exquisite Queen Anne stylistic elements include a trio of second-floore balconies with wrought-iron rails decorated with spindle work and a front door set deeply at the back of an ample veranda that looks out onto Norwood Avenue. Henry Harrison Little (1848-1917) was both the owner of the house and its architect; born in Lancaster, New York, he was apprenticed to Cyrus Porter in Detroit before moving back to Buffalo in 1878 and operating his firm out of an office in the White Building for the remainder of his life. A lifelong Democrat, H. H. Little was also one of the leading financial backers of Grover Cleveland's successful campaign for the Presidency in 1884, and served one term as the alderman for Buffalo's Fourth Ward in 1886-87.
