Description
English: HEARTY WELCOME TENDERED TO THE AMERICAN LEAGUE

Fully 15,000 Enthusaists, Men and Woman, Witness Athletic's Opening Game A BRILLIANT SPECTACLE Mayor Ashbridge and His Cabinet Included Among the Distinguished Persons Present THOUSANDS TURNED AWAY Old-Timers, Long Lost in the Game, Renew Their Allegiance to the New Athletics

The noon-day sun was still on high, When onward, swift as eagle fly, A rooter sped, with purpose clear; He yelled it loud, so all could hear: FOLLOW THE CROWD!

His face was flushed, as if with hope Gleaned from perusing base ball dope: And with each step increased his stride As to the Quaker folk he cried: FOLLOW THE CROWD!

In street cars saw he struggling men, Squirming like cattle in a pen, And, pointing to them, loudly yelled, With lungs that well the voice propelled: FOLLOW THE CROWD!

"Here is a ???," the Colonel said: The rooter never turned his head; "The cantilever's ??? are free??? Back came the answer, "None, ??? me." FOLLOW THE CROWD!

The cry caught on: the rouster found He'd have to fight to gain the ground, And, plunging madely in the fray, He raised his voice again to say, FOLLOW THE CROWD!

Thousands back the answer sent: The cry the very echoes rent, No solo now, but chorus strong Was this, the rooter's tuneful song: FOLLOW THE CROWD. (With apologies to Mrs. Excelsior.)
