English: SEPTEMBER 23, 1779, JOHN PAUL JONES WITH 3 OTHER SHIPS IN COMPANY, ENCOUNTERED A BRITISH CONVOY OF 41 SAIL OFF FLAMBOROUGH HEAD, ENGLAND. AS THE MERCHANT SHIPS SCATTERED TO ESCAPE JONES BROUGHT UNWEILDY BON HOMME RICHARD, CONVERTED EAST INDIAMAN AGAINST THE H.M. SERAPIS. THIS IS THE BATTLE IN WHICH JONES UTTERED THE FAMOUS LINE "I HAVE NOT YET BEGUN TO FIGHT"

THE U.S NAVAL MUSEUM IN WASHINGTON HAS A LARGE NUMBER OF HISTORIC PAINTINGS OF VARIOUS ACTIONS WHICH INVOLVED THE U.S. NAVY. I HAVE PICTURES OF MOST OF THESE PAINTINGS IF INTERESTED. WIKIPEDIA HAS AN ARTICLE ON THE BON HOMME RICHARD WITH A PICTURE OF THE SHIP BUT NOT ONE OF ITS MOST FAMOUS ENGAGEMENT
