Summary edit

Description A U.S. Navy Sikorsky HO4S hovers over a mailbag, waiting for an approaching whaleboat to retrieve it. Both were from the aircraft carrier USS Boxer (CVS-21) which responded to a distress call of a U.S. Air Force Douglas C-124C Globemaster II (s/n 50-107) which experienced engine trouble during a flight from Hawaii (USA) to Wake Island. The plane crashed 320 km north-east off Johnston Island. Twelve hours later, the HO4S from Boxer could rescue three men of the crew of seven. The airmen had been clinging to a wooden box.
