Deb Haaland Volunteers with New Mexico Groups in Honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Summary edit

Description
English: ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy, Congresswoman Deb Haaland (NM-01) volunteered alongside Albuquerque Involved, First Choice Community Healthcare, Bernalillo County, Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge, and the Rocky Mountain Youth Corps at their second annual MLK Day Service Event. At the event, the volunteers removed invasive plant species and cleaned up the McEwen Pond site in Albuquerque’s South Valley. They then prepared for the planting of fruit trees and installation of community walking trails.

“Martin Luther King, Jr.’s vision for this country was one where we respected one another and worked together for the betterment of our communities. Today’s service project was a testament to Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy.

“Amidst an increase in hateful rhetoric, it’s clear we have more work to do to fully realize Dr. King’s dream, but I know in New Mexico we’re moving forward every day,” said Congresswoman Deb Haaland (NM-01).
