Description
English: Haddon Hall & River Wye. Near Bakewell, Derbyshire, this is one of the oldest, & probably the finest, fortified medieval manor houses in England. It dates from the 12th century & is home to Lord & Lady Edward Manners, whose family have owned it since 1567. It has featured in many films and telvision programmes, including the recent film version of Pride and Prejudice. The house lay dormant for over 200 years from 1700 to the 1920's, when the 9th Duke and Duchess of Rutland restored the house and gardens and made it habitable again. See also 80722
