English: Hadfield station, 1996. View NE, towards the buffer-stops, but formerly the main line via the Woodhead Tunnel to Penistone, Sheffield etc.: ex-GCR Manchester - Sheffield trunk trans-Pennine route, electrified through the New Woodhead Tunnel from 6/54, then after a mere 15 years prematurely abandoned for passenger traffic on 5/1/70 and for freight from 18/7/81. Since 1970 Hadfield has been the terminus of merely a suburban electric service from Manchester Piccadilly, the trains going in and out of Glossop on the way. |
