| Description |
English: Haldon Pier The pier, some 160 metres in length, was built in 1870, and forms the southern breakwater of the outer harbour at Torquay. It "was constructed from concrete blocks 10 or 13 ft long by 4 ft wide and 4 ft high placed on the sea bed by divers. The pier extended to the south-west from Beacon Hill, which was excavated to provide the broken stone aggregate and to form a level standing" (Civil Engineering Heritage: Southern England By R. A. Otter). This partly explains the complete removal of Beacon Hill from the landscape.
