Description
English: Copper alloy, with red enamel and silver plating


Brooch fragment. Half-Disc-and-Trumpet type, with a round central boss flanked by two smaller bosses on a field of red enamel decorating the half disc. A tapering bow bears the stub of a catch-plate on its back, and retains spots of silver plating. Heavily abraded. The trumpet head is lost. This type of brooch is not a common find, but the examples known are widely distributed. Suggested date: Early Roman, 50-200.


Length: 22mm, Width: 13.8mm, Thickness (disc): 2.4mm, Weight: 1.90gms.
