Summary edit
DescriptionHalls Lock - geograph.org.uk - 75236.jpg |
English: Halls Lock. Situated immediately behind bridge 137, Halls Lock is a good example of the set of duplicate locks still to be found on Heartbreak Hill on the Trent & Mersey Canal. These double locks are perhaps indicative of the volumes of traffic which used the canal in its heyday and would help to relieve the bottlenecks frequently experienced at similar flights of locks where boats could only pass through one at a time. A brick pier links the base of the bridge to the lock. |
