Summary edit
DescriptionHalticoptera flavicornis (male) - (1).jpg |
This male Halticoptera flavicornis Chalcid wasp found resting on a parsley plant in my back garden in Ipswich (TM166450) on 24 Oct 2014. I don't think this is a particularly rare species, but under-recorded. There are currently on 23 observation of the Halticoptera genus recorded in the whole of the UK on the NBN Gateway, none of which are in the South-East and only 1 of H flavicornis, in Bristol. The yellow sacs near the "neck" are the swollen end segments of the maxillar palps. These small metallic-coloured wasps are parasites of flies. My thanks to Hannes Baur for confirming the ID. |
