| Description |
Day Four on MS Trollfjord ... After a couple of hours of cruising, we neared Hammerfest in time for arrival at 10:45. The town of Hammerfest is situated on the island of Kvaløya, with road connection to the mainland using the Kvalsund Bridge. In spite of the extreme northern location, there is no permafrost, as the mean annual temperature is approximately 2°C (36°F). The town has an ice-free harbour, including the nearby island of Melkøya which is home to a natural gas processing station. It processes gas from the Snøhvit gas field in the Barents Sea. We passed this on our way in to Hammerfest. |
