English: Main Hall. Confucius Temple, Hangzhou
Dacheng hall is a Qing-dynasty, double-eaved, hip-gabled, 7-bay-wide and 5-bay-deep building with a band of small ventilation openings just above the lower eave. Its middle inscription is by Emperor Kangxi. A Confucian temple (Kong Miao) has occupied these grounds since the beginning of the Southern Song dynasty, when Hangzhou became the dynastic capital. The present temple plan and buildings date to the Qing dynasty. It was newly re-opened in October, 2008, at a cost of 150 million yuan (22 million U.S. dollars) for the restoration. |
