Description
The experts at Bruun Rasmussen saw this as a study for Hammer's much larger painting of the well - also from 1862 - and now at the Statens Museum for Kunst (KMS826). However, the group around the well is very different, and there is in fact another painting - from around 1858 - that could have served as a study.
