Wikipedia: St.-Bartholomaei-Kirche (Demmin) Hansestadt Demmin, Landkreis Mecklenburgische Seenplatte, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Demmin liegt am Zusammenfluss der Flüsse Peene, Tollense und Trebel und hat über die Peene Zugang zum Stettiner Haff. Anfang des 10. Jahrhunderts entsteht auf einer Insel am Zusammenfluss von Peene und Tollense eine slawische Grenzburg, die später den Namen „Haus Demmin“ erhält. Im Schutz dieser Burg entwickelt sich ein Handelsplatz, der 1075 bereits als „bedeutende Stadt“ („civitas maxima“) beschrieben wird. Die gotische Stadtkirche St. Bartholomaei wird erstmals 1269 erwähnt. 1283 tritt Demmin der Hanse bei und erhält durch die pommerschen Herzöge 1320 die Zollfreiheit. 1607 scheidet Demmin aus der Hanse aus, die zu dieser Zeit bereits im Zerfall begriffen ist. 1848 sind in Demmin acht Handelsschiffe beheimatet. Noch im späten 19. Jahrhundert wird Demmin regelmäßig von kleineren Seeschiffen angelaufen. Am 30.4./1.5.1945 wird die Stadt der Roten Armee kampflos übergeben. Dennoch wird ein Großteil der historischen Innenstadt durch die Rote Armee zerstört. Aufgrund der Mitgliedschaft Demmins in der Hanse tritt die Stadt 1992 dem Hansebund der Neuzeit bei; seit dem 21. Januar 1994 führt die Stadt wieder den Beinamen „Hansestadt“. Die Innenstadt und die Kirche werden im Rahmen der Städtebauförderung seit 1991 gründlich saniert. |
