On August 30, 2021, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Terra satellite acquired a true-color image of the Harding Icefield.

Description
English: According to the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC), as many as 40 glaciers flow from the Harding Icefield, which is located in the Kenai Mountains of Alaska. The icefield receives more than 400 inches of snow each year. One of the glaciers, called the Exit Glacier, is considered one of the most easily accessible glaciers in Alaska, but “easy” is relative—one of the shorter routes is via an 8.5-mile round-trip hike. On August 30, 2021, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Terra satellite acquired a true-color image of the Harding Icefield. The Icefield and associated glaciers can be seen as the large bright white area on the Kenai Peninsula. On the west side of the mountains, some of the glacial meltwater has formed bright blue glacial lakes. The large Cook Inlet, with the inland water discolored by glacial flour (sediment) sits west of the Kenai Peninsula. Smoke from wildfires lends a gray tint to the scene.
