Summary edit
DescriptionHarlaxton ironstone railway, former quarry and the climb to Swine Hill - geograph.org.uk - 1466637.jpg |
English: Harlaxton ironstone railway: former quarry and the climb to Swine Hill From 1942-50 this field was one of the many Harlaxton quarries. Unlike those at the top of the escarpment, where Northampton Sands ore was extracted, this quarry was on the marlstone. I am standing on the trackbed of the Harlaxton line (now a farm track), which curved away up the hill behind the trees and continued to the reversing point at Swine Hill, which is just about in the centre of this picture (see my photos for SK8832 for Swine Hill and others nearby for more on the Harlaxton railways and quarries). |
