Description
Nederlands: Staande in een weiland bij Harmelen moest ik terugdenken aan de treinramp die bij Harmelen plaats vond op maandag 8 januari 1962 om 9.19 uur nabij het Utrechtse dorp, gelegen aan de spoorlijn Utrecht - Rotterdam. Bij de botsing tussen twee reizigerstreinen vielen 93 doden en 52 gewonden, waarmee dit de grootste treinramp uit de geschiedenis van de spoorwegen in Nederland is. Er hing op het moment van de ramp een dichte mist in de polder waar de spoorlijn van Breukelen naar Woerden gelijkvloers aansloot op de lijn van Utrecht naar Gouda. Hoewel ik die tijd zelf niet heb meegemaakt, heb ik er wel veel over gelezen en gezien. Tegenwoordig is er een ongelijkvloerse kruising, waardoor dit soort rampen niet meer kunnen gebeuren.
