English: "John Bull's Neutrality - The Guardian of Civilization in Full Play" - cartoon published in "Harper's Weekly", September 13, 1862 on British sympathies for the Confederacy during the American Civil War and London's threats to recognize Southern independence; John Bull sends his dogs (one with the head of British foreign minister John Russell and the other representing pro-Confederate MP John Arthur Roebuck) to attack an allegory of American liberty struggling with the serpent of treason and rebellion.
