Description At 21.45 on 31st january 1953 Harwich Harbour Master notified the Harwich Police Station of an exceptional high tide timed for 00.50 the following morning. By 22.30 water was already lapping over Harwich Quay. It was reported that at 23.55 the Bathside sea wall was breached and water was flooding into the low-lying area. By 12.40 not only was Bathside flooded along with "Old" Harwich, Harbour Crescent,the Victoria Hotel area,Grafton Road and Fernlea Road and there was 7 feet of water in the police station
