Arms: Martin (Gules, a lion rampant within an orle of crosses-crosslets and mullets alternately or (Burke, Sir Bernard, The General Armory, London, 1884, pp.663-4) quartering Wykeham Argent, two chevronels between three roses gules seeded or barbed vert (Burke, Sir Bernard, The General Armory, London, 1884, p.1142) impaling Vert, a fess engrailed ermine between in chief three boar's heads and in base a pheon or. Seemingly Fiennes Wykeham Martin (grandfather of Major Fiennes Cornwallis, born Fiennes Wykeham-Martin (1 November 1831 – 24 April 1867)) who married Eliza Bignell, daughter of R. Bignell. Impaled arms not arms of Bignell per Burke. |
