Summary edit

Description
English: Hayle Mill's chimney. Hayle Mill, now long disused, produced paper and was one of a number of mills in the area. In the early 20th century, a new railway line was proposed between Tovil and Headcorn. The line would have run to the right of the road and close to seven cottage occupied by mill workers and was the subject of an enquiry in 1905. Herbert Green, the mill owner, was concerned that black deposits from the steam locomotives would have an adverse effect on the paper they produced. The line was never built.
