Henna Painting in Lamu

Description
English: Henna paste is made of henna powder, water, and juice of unripe lemons (to darken the color). The Painter applies it with a fine twig from a saucer on her knees. Current henna is mixed with chemicals to darken the colour. This days application of henna is done with a cone made of gift paper rolled into a cone shape.

There are two types of henna: Red Henna: Red Henna is henna made from henna leaves that are dried and blended into powder

Black Henna: Black henna is henna that comes from hair dye.

Women applied henna using different designs such: as Saudia designs, Indian designs, Somali designs, and Sudan designs.

Women apply henna during weddings, Eid, and traveling.
