Description

This eight page letter was composed by 1st Lieutenant Herbert J. Hirshinger, detailing his activities during the Boxer Rebellion. The letter, titled, "An American Marine Officer's Trip to China with the China Relief Expedition, July, 1900" is addressed to Hirshinger's father and dated 8 December 1900.

Hirshinger served as Adjutant of the 5th Battalion, commanded by Major Dickins. Hirshinger illustrated the letter with sketches of various items and scenes described in the narrative.
