Herder Hippekniep folding knife deployed

Summary

Description
English: The Hippekniep is a folding pocket knife made by the Herder knife-making company in Solingen, Germany. It was originally intended for goat care to cut their hooves in case of injuries and was often used by farmers as a general use pocket knife. The word Hip means goat and the word Kniep means folding in old German dialect. The drop point flat ground blade is made of non-rustproof high carbon steel, blue-plastered by hand and finely forged from the base to the tip of the knife. The handle scales are made of oiled wood. The carbon steel on the 90 mm (3.5 in) long full flat ground blade shows patina (dark spots) caused by decades of use. The blade is hand forged and polished with walrus leather wheels for blue glaze dry fine grinding (Blaupließten), this is the old style smooth surface finish grinding. Deployed length is 210 mm (8.3 in) and folded 125 mm (4.9 in). It can easily be sharpened to a shaving sharp edge that is quite wear resistant. This style of knife is also known as a Sodbuster or Notschlachtmesser meaning emergency slaughter knife and can feature a non-locked slipjoint blade or a lock-blade.
