Herman Chapin (1858-1940) was born in Brookline, Massachusetts. Educated at Harvard, he came to Seattle with the Boston National Bank in 1886. He was later director of the Seattle National Bank. He was married to Mary Arquit, who died two years after their marriage. He never remarried.
