English: An NASA satellite image was annotated to demonstrate a cartoon high-pressure system that would influence the formation of the Papagayo jet. As the cold air from the North American continent meets the warm moist air of the Caribbean a large pressure gradient is established and the air flows quickly over Nicaragua and Costa Rica into the Pacific. The large Cordillera mountains block this wind and as a result it is funneled through a narrow pass in the mountains. This funneled wind is called the Papagayo jet. |
