Summary edit
DescriptionHippodrome, Middle Street - geograph.org.uk - 212534.jpg |
English: Hippodrome, Middle Street. Head north up Middle Street and on the eastern side of the road is The Hippodrome a former variety theatre that opened in 1901 and closed in 1965 before reopening as a bingo hall which is still its function today. Laurence Olivier had one of his earliest walk on parts in The Ghost Train in 1925, managing to trip over when entering the stage much to the amusement of the audience. Both the Beatles and Rolling Stones played here during 1964.
