Notes
  • Significance: Designed and built in 1912 by Tomas Tijerina, this house is notable for its fine brick detailing, characteristic of Rio Grande Valley architecture. The unusual buttresses were added to help the house withstand winds of hurricane force. The Tijerina family is descended from the holders of the original Spanish Land Grants to this area, and has played an active part in the history of the valley.
