Summary edit

Description After exploring the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral of the Twelve Apostles, it was now time to explore the rest of the historic town. Somehow, Mtskheta reminded me of another Unesco World Heritage ancient town I'd seen in Turkey in 2016- Sirince. The only difference is, Sirince is situated atop a mountain, but Mtskheta is surrounded by mountains. Here are some of the historic houses in Mtskheta against a mountain backdrop. The Historical Monuments of Mtskheta were recently placed on UNESCO's List of World Heritage in Danger, citing serious deterioration of the stonework and frescoes as the main threat to the site's long-term preservation.
